How to Fix a Slow Computer

Working with a slow computer can be annoying, especially when working on huge projects that require a specific time frame. Instead of purchasing another computer, there are ways to fix a slow-running PC and enjoy every moment on the computer. Before taking the computer to an expert, one can save money by trying a few tips. Below are ways on how to make your computer faster.

Remove Temporary Files

Most computer users are constantly browsing using the internet explorer and installing things. This history piles up in the PC and makes the computer slower. To make the computer work fast, one should delete all the clutter by deleting all the old files by clicking My Computer, choose Windows, choose Temp, then right-click and delete. After deleting, they go to the recycle bin which also requires it to be emptied.

Uninstall Unused Programs

After purchasing a personal computer, one can find lots of pre-installed programs that are of no use. Most of these programs continue running, slowing how the computer works. Therefore, one should click Start, choose the Control panel, and then choose Programs and Features. Here, the user should uninstall all the unneeded programs.

Increase Hard Drive Storage

A full hard drive makes the computer slower. This mainly affects those who record videos because they take up considerable space. To add on the hide drive storage, one can purchase mega storage drives that help store HD movies and work faster despite performing heavy tasks using the computer.

Add Random Access Memory (RAM)

It’s hard to open many applications at once on a slow computer. This is because the RAM isn’t enough for the computer. Thus, to avoid frustration when using the PC, one should upgrade by getting more RAM to avoid minor strokes and ensure the computer works faster.

Use a Vacuum to Remove Dust

A computer’s fan is used to cool the CPU. However, it traps a lot of dust which is visible once the user opens the PC. The dust prevents airflow, and the computer overheats, hence working slower than required. Using a vacuum can blow off the dust, improve airflow, keep the required temperature, and improve the computer’s performance.

Avoid Unnecessary Start-Ups

After switching on the computer, most of the time, automatic running programs show up. These applications use a large part of the computer’s memory, making it slow. To stop these programs running in the background, one should click Start, type Run and then type “msconfig.” Then click on the Startup tab, which displays all the applications that run when one switches on the computer. Then, untick all the unnecessary applications by clicking “disable all.” However, to avoid deleting the vital applications, it would be best to untick the programs one at a time.

The above are tips to ensure that a computer works faster. This way, the user can work quickly despite opening many apps at the same time. However, if the computer still works slow after trying the above tips, it would be best to purchase a new one because some computers are affordable.
